Boxster and Cayman Special Ed Official Details

Porsche has finally confirmed our story that an end of run Cayman is on the way. What's more, there's also a hotted up version of the Boxster we didn't know about - crafty.

Both cars are limited run models - and have dash plaques to prove it: the Boxster S-based Porsche Design Edition 2 is limited to 500 cars, while there will be 700 examples of the Cayman S Sport.

The Boxster comes in Carrara White, and runs on white 19-inch SportDesign wheels as standard. There are also some go-faster grey stripes, just like the Porsche Design Edition 1 version. The new car also gets cool all-red lights like the RS60 Spyder special model had.

On the inside the car gets white dials, and Porsche Design has also made a matching watch which comes with the car.

The Cayman comes in orange or frog green, like the GT3 – but can be had in more sober colours if you can’t stomach going neon.

Both cars will develop 303bhp, thanks to a sports exhaust, and have PASM and bi-xenons. The Cayman also gets the Sport Chrono Package as standard, some tasty alcantara and has been lowered by 10mm and the track widened by the same amount.

We already know that the Cayman will retail at £49,890 – a useful £5k less than in Germany. The Boxster is harder to pin down, but around £46k should do it. The first cars should be around in September. Super.

  • Both Boxter and Cayman were great cars, and they had such great reviews based on the car's design, performance, engine and napa auto parts used. Can't think of any reason though why Cayman is only available in green, would like to have one in other color though.

  • While the 911 lives, the Cayman is forced to bend over and take a punishing. Which is a total shame.

  • 303HP is not interesting. Where's my 480HP Cayman?
