Right then, I got a nod that Caterham held a bit of a viewing for the R500 a couple of days ago and subsequently have managed to round up most of the important details and a few pics of the new car.

I'm not sure when it goes on sale, but it will cost a slightly eye-watering £37,000.

The car is built on the Series 3 chassis. Into this has gone a revised version of the 2.0-litre Duratec engine which has 263bhp and revs to 8,500rpm.

As standard the car comes with an H-pattern 6 speeder, but a 6-cog Quaife sequential box is an option, as is launch control. With both the latter fitted, the car can spin its 13-inch anthracites to 60 in under 3 seconds.

Cosmetically, the car gains the aero wishbones and nose of the CSR, and the rear lights and indicators are freshened with the addition of clear lenses.

On the inside, the car gets a new white stack dash and revisions to the layout of switches, while the indicators have been moved from a rocker switch on the dash to buttons mounted on the steering wheel.

I’d really rather like a go in one. Soon. In the meantime, I'll try and get hold of some bigger pics.
