The Tribe at BMW Mobile Tradition

Even if you think that, on the whole, BMWs tend be driven by grabbing, dysfunctional cack wizards, this should still impress you.

Called BMW Mobile Tradition, it's basically a massive garage containing all the German firm's most significant road and track motors. It really is a jaw-dropping experience.

Not technically being open to the public means that all the available space is used for storage. The sight of classic E30 M3 racers door handle-to-door handle with CSLs and all of Andy Priaulx’s championship winning cars is both strange and wonderful. It’s like a thoroughbred version of the back lot at your local Ford dealer.

But these aren’t just investments, kept away from grubby hands and prying eyes. All of them work, and are regularly used for public events and press outings.

Anyway, the rather nice chaps art BMW UK gave us the chance to nose around. Super.

Everywhere you look, your eyes will stumble on another treat. Tucked away in the corner is the lunatic BMW X5, complete with a 750bhp V12 engine from the firm’s 1999 Le Mans winner. Incredibly, factory driver Hans Stuck lapped the Nürburgring in under 8 minutes.

There are plenty more full-size pics in the photos section. I’m going for a lie down.
